A professional five-page small business website costs about $3,850 at the median US agency in 2026, with the middle half of projects between $2,200 and $7,500. Custom builds for growing companies run $5,000 to $20,000, most agency projects come in under $10,000, and a do-it-yourself builder starts at $17 a month plus your evenings. This guide covers the ranges by route and by size, what moves the number, the costs after launch and how we scope. Our own starting points: websites start at $3,500 and ecommerce stores at $4,500, fifty percent to start and the balance at launch.
Updated August 30, 2026. Market figures come from published agency billing data, provider surveys and buyer guides, each linked in the sources at the end and checked live on that date. IBIZDigital's own numbers are the same ones on our pricing page.
Four ways to get a website, and what each one typically costs in the United States in 2026.
| Route | Typical cost | What the data says | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Do it yourself on a builder | $17 to $159 a month, plus your time | Wix $17 to $159 a month, Squarespace $25 to $139, WordPress free to $70 plus hosting; a DIY build costs $0 to $450 to set up. The design, the words and the conversion thinking are still yours to do. | A first site for a side business, or a placeholder while the real one is built. |
| Freelancer | $2,500 to $5,000 a project | The most common bracket in a 2025 survey of 208 designers, 57 percent of whom charge $2,500 to $9,999; average $100 an hour. Worldwide freelance marketplaces run $15 to $30 an hour, with the quality range to match. | A small site with the copy and photos already in hand, and someone on your side to manage it. |
| Agency, small business site | $2,200 to $7,500, median $3,850 | Five-page site at US agencies, 25th to 90th percentile, from billing data across 2,100 agencies. Ten or more pages: $4,800 to $15,000, median $8,500. Most agency projects on Clutch finish under $10,000. | A business that needs the site to bring in customers, not just exist. |
| Agency, custom or mid-market | $5,000 to $20,000 and up | The small business bracket in 400 verified DesignRush projects; mid-market runs $20,000 to $100,000 and the median across all sizes is $20,000 to $25,000. Enterprise builds pass $100,000. | Integrations, portals, many pages, several audiences or brands. |
| IBIZDigital | From $3,500; stores from $4,500 | A focused marketing site with strategy, copy, design, build and launch included; a clean store on a standard catalog. One fixed number in writing before we build. | Owners who want a site that converts and want to own every part of it. |

The cheapest route is usually the most expensive one. A builder site costs almost nothing to launch and a great deal to leave running if it does not convert, because every month it sits there, visitors arrive and leave. The question that matters is not what the site costs but what it produces: our best-known result is a redesign that took a regional retailer from $14M to $28M in revenue on the same traffic, and the same team did nothing else. That card is below, anonymized, with the rest on the results page.
Billing data from more than 2,100 US web design agencies, published April 2026. The median is what half of projects cost less than; the 90th percentile is where the complex ones land.
| Project | 25th percentile | Median | 90th percentile | What usually moves it |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Landing page, one page | $700 | $1,200 | $2,500 | Copy, form and tracking; whether it has to match an ad campaign. |
| Small business site, five pages | $2,200 | $3,850 | $7,500 | Custom design versus a template, whether the copy exists, integrations. |
| Full business site, ten or more pages | $4,800 | $8,500 | $15,000 | Page count, photography, a CMS the team will use, booking or CRM connections. |
| Ecommerce build | $5,500 | $11,000 | $28,000 | Catalog size, migration, inventory and ERP connections, subscriptions, custom checkout. |
| Monthly care plan, after launch | $99 a month | $249 a month | $799 a month | Updates, backups, monitoring, small changes; hosting is usually separate. |

Two more data points frame the table. A 2026 survey of more than 300 web development firms across 31 countries found that 60 percent price a basic site at $1,000 to $3,000 and 54 percent price a mid-sized site at $5,000 to $20,000, with 57 percent billing $50 to $100 an hour; those are global figures, and US rates run higher, at $100 to $149 an hour on Clutch and $104 an hour in the DesignRush data. And the averages are much larger than the medians (Clutch's average project is about $38,000 and DesignRush's is $46,000) because a small number of enterprise builds pull them up. For a small or mid-sized business, the medians are the honest benchmark.
The same word, website, covers a $17-a-month template and a $50,000 platform. Here is what usually sits behind each.
A builder subscription or a freelancer dropping your text into a theme. It looks like a website. It has no strategy behind it, the copy is whatever you wrote, and it is rarely built for speed, search or accessibility. Forbes Advisor's guide puts professional design at $1,500 and up for a reason: below that, nobody has time to think about your customer.
The bracket most small business sites are built in: a five to seven page marketing site, custom or semi-custom design, the copy written with you, forms, analytics and launch. The tradeoff is usually depth: one conversion goal, a modest page count and standard integrations. This is where IBIZDigital starts, at $3,500, with strategy and conversion-first design included rather than added.
Ten to thirty pages, custom design throughout, professional photography, booking, CRM or email connections, a content system the team will actually use, and a store if you sell online. The small business bracket in the DesignRush data and the ten-plus-page median on Lindo both sit here. Most of the sites we build for growing companies land in this range, and the number is set by the drivers below, not by a package.
Web applications, customer or vendor portals, large catalogs with ERP connections, several brands or languages. The mid-market bracket runs $20,000 to $100,000 and enterprise builds pass $100,000. At IBIZDigital that work is scoped as custom web development, from $5,000, with a working demo before the second payment.
Every guide names the same drivers, and page count is first on every list. These are the ones we walk through in your session.
An ecommerce build at a US agency runs $5,500 at the 25th percentile, $11,000 at the median and $28,000 at the 90th, and Shopify's own guide puts custom-built store development at $2,000 to $20,000 or more, on top of a platform plan: Shopify runs $39 a month on Basic, $105 on Grow, $399 on Advanced and $2,300 on Plus, and every plan carries transaction fees; a builder's ecommerce add-on runs $15 to $30 a month before payment processing. Catalog size, a migration from another platform, ERP or inventory connections, subscriptions and custom checkout logic are what move a store's number, and they move it fast.
At IBIZDigital, ecommerce stores start at $4,500 for a clean store on a standard catalog: design, build, product and payment setup, shipping and tax configuration, analytics and launch, fifty percent to start and the balance at launch. Your platform subscription, or hosting for a WooCommerce store from $250 a year with us, is billed separately and stays in your name. The same team runs the SEO and the ads afterward, so the store is built for the traffic it is about to get.
A website has a running cost, and it is small next to the build if the site is built well.
| Item | Typical range | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Domain name | $10 to $35 a year | Registered in your name, always. Renewal on autopay so it never lapses. |
| Hosting | $5 to $250 a month | Entry shared hosting runs $5 to $13 a month; performance hosting for a business site more. IBIZDigital's high-performance hosting starts at $250 a year. |
| SSL certificate | $0, or $8 to $270 a year | Most hosts include one. Pay only if you need an extended-validation certificate. |
| Maintenance or care plan | $99 to $799 a month, median $249 | Updates, backups, monitoring and small changes. One industry guide budgets 10 to 15 percent of the build cost per year. |
| Builder or platform subscription | $17 to $2,300 a month | Only if the site runs on a subscription platform: builders at the low end, Shopify plans across the range. |

New Jersey prices track the national agency ranges, with the same spread between a local studio and a large shop. The published starting points at New Jersey agencies we checked in August 2026 run from about $2,500 to $3,500 for a small business site at local studios, and $3,000 to $15,000 for most professional small business sites, through $5,000 to $10,000 as the lowest budget bracket at a large Bergen County agency that quotes one flat fee with half up front, to $12,000 for a ten-page custom build at a South Jersey firm and $25,000 minimums at B2B specialists in Essex County. A few New Jersey studios sell sites as subscriptions at $300 to $1,500 a month instead, which costs more over three years and leaves you owning nothing.
IBIZDigital is in Freehold, in Monmouth County, and has been building New Jersey websites since 1996. Our websites start at $3,500 for New Jersey businesses and national ones alike, in-person sessions are on the table for Central Jersey, and the site is yours outright. More on the New Jersey agency page.
The same three steps for every client, so the number you sign is the number you pay.

We size the ten drivers above against your project: pages, design depth, how much copy exists, photography, integrations, platform and the migration plan. That becomes a page map and a build plan with the launch page first.

A professional five-page small business website costs about $3,850 at the median US agency in 2026, with the middle half of projects between $2,200 and $7,500, according to billing data from more than 2,100 US agencies. Custom builds for growing companies fall in the $5,000 to $20,000 bracket, and most agency projects reviewed on Clutch come in under $10,000. A do-it-yourself builder costs $17 to $159 a month plus your time, and a freelancer typically charges $2,500 to $5,000 for a small site. At IBIZDigital, websites start at $3,500, fifty percent to start and the balance at launch.
In 2026 US agency billing data, a five-page small business site runs $2,200 at the 25th percentile, $3,850 at the median and $7,500 at the 90th; a full business site of ten or more pages runs $4,800, $8,500 and $15,000 at the same points; a single landing page runs $700, $1,200 and $2,500. Page count is the first cost driver everywhere, and every page adds design, copy and build time. IBIZDigital's starting price of $3,500 covers a focused marketing site built around one conversion goal; more pages move the number, and you see the total in writing before we build.
Because you are buying different things. A builder subscription, $17 to $159 a month, buys software; the design, the words, the structure, the speed and the conversion thinking are still your job. An agency site is strategy, copywriting, custom design, a build tuned for speed, search and accessibility, analytics and launch, done by people who do it every week. Forbes Advisor notes that agencies charge well over $1,500 just to customize a template, and custom coding runs about $200 an hour. The honest comparison is not the price of the site but the revenue the site produces: our best-known result is a redesign that doubled a client's revenue on the same traffic.
An ecommerce build at a US agency runs $5,500 at the 25th percentile, $11,000 at the median and $28,000 at the 90th in 2026 billing data, and Shopify puts custom-built store development at $2,000 to $20,000 or more, on top of a platform plan of $39 to $2,300 a month. Catalog size, migrations, ERP or inventory connections, subscriptions and custom checkout logic are what move the number. At IBIZDigital, ecommerce stores start at $4,500 for a clean store on a standard catalog, fifty percent to start and the balance at launch, with your platform subscription billed separately in your name.
About the same as a new build of the same size, because the drivers are the same: pages, design, copy, integrations and platform. What a redesign adds is migration work, moving content and redirecting every old URL so the search equity you have earned follows you instead of dying at the switch. Most of what we build is redesigns, starting at $3,500 for a focused marketing site, and the redirect map is included because it is the part most redesigns get wrong.
Plan on a domain at $10 to $35 a year, hosting at $5 to $250 a month depending on performance, and an SSL certificate that most hosts now include. Maintenance is priced separately almost everywhere: agency care plans run $99 to $799 a month with a median of $249, and one industry guide budgets 10 to 15 percent of the build cost per year. IBIZDigital's high-performance hosting starts at $250 a year, set up in your name, so the starting prices for our builds are the whole build.
New Jersey prices track the national agency ranges. Published starting points at New Jersey agencies we checked in August 2026 run from about $2,500 to $3,500 for a small business site at local studios, through $5,000 to $10,000 as the lowest budget bracket at a large Bergen County agency, to $12,000 for a ten-page custom build and $25,000 minimums at B2B specialists. IBIZDigital is in Freehold, in Monmouth County, and our websites start at $3,500 for New Jersey businesses and national ones alike.
Websites start at $3,500, fifty percent to start and the balance at launch. The starting price covers a focused marketing site: strategy, conversion-first design, the copy, a hand-coded build, schema, analytics, forms and launch. More pages, custom functionality, integrations and ecommerce move the number, so every project is scoped in your free AI Growth Session and you approve one fixed price in writing before any work begins. You own everything: the code, the design, the copy, the domain, the hosting account and the analytics. Every starting price is on our pricing page.
Both, at the starting price. Every site we build is answer-first from the first line of code: clean heading structure, schema markup, fast load times and open access for search and AI crawlers are part of the build, not an upsell. The copy is written with you, because the words are what sell. Ongoing SEO, the monthly work of winning rankings and AI citations after launch, is a separate program from $3,000 a month, described in our SEO pricing guide.
Fifty percent to start and the balance at launch, which is the industry norm for projects of this size; deposits of 25 to 50 percent are standard across agencies and freelancers. Scope changes are priced and approved in writing before they happen, so there is no surprise invoice. High-performance hosting, from $250 a year, is billed separately and set up in your name.
